Project Description

State of the Art Opera House

The new Wexford Opera House was constructed on the site of the old Theatre Royal and is home to the Wexford Festival Opera, the world famous opera festival which has been running on the site annually since 1951.

The state of the art opera house includes a 750-seat main auditorium, a 250-seat second space, a 30m high fly-tower and all associated facilities. Paramount to the design was the integration of the new theatre into the existing streetscape of the historic medieval town and the provision of world class acoustics in the new auditoria.

When the opera house was opened for the 2008 Wexford Festival Season, it received international acclaim for the quality of the acoustics in the new facility.
