Project Description

Engine Innovate Limerick

Innovate Limerick was established by Limerick City & County Council, its purpose is to help drive innovation and act as part of the Limerick 2030 plan, the Limerick Regeneration plan and others. The Engine Innovate building houses conference and meeting spaces over four floors and included alterations to the existing building. The building will extend the existing facilities to accommodate a further 12000m² of flexible collaboration, office and conference space.

The Engine Innovate extension consists of a clear span steel frame with composite concrete floors on piled foundations. The building is finished with a historic brick and line render to tie in with the surrounding architecture within the Limerick Georgian Quarter.

DRA Consulting Engineers provided full civil and structural engineering services for the project. Our design took into account the Principles of Prevention with design risk assessments carried out a both concept & detailed design stages.

Technical complexities associated with this project included the construction of a substantial building on a city centre site, ensuring that the existing Engine Innovate complex could operate fully during the construction stage.

A rapid build form of construction (steel frame & composite deck flooring) was adopted to shorten the construction period and have off-site fabrication due to health & safety risk assessment outcomes & the nature of the site (city centre).
